Position:  Chemical Engineer

Location: Pittsburgh, Pa

Founded in 1984, Altamira Instruments is a manufacturer of scientific instrumentation located in Pittsburgh, Pa (O’Hara Township, RIDC Park).  Altamira is currently seeking an Engineer with 4 to 6 years of experience.  This is a hands-on position, and the successful candidate will design, develop, test, and install instruments for laboratory and pilot industrial processes in industries such as: oil and gas, automotive, energy, and chemical production. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

• Designing instruments and equipment, including interfacing with vendors and placing purchase orders

• Interacting with customers or prospective customers in order to optimize design
• Managing projects, including interfacing with electrical engineering, software engineering, and mechanical and electrical technicians
• Developing construction, operation, and safety documentation (i.e. P&ID, Bill of Materials, hardware and software manuals, shut down protocol, etc…)
• Testing instruments and software to ensure proper operation and that all specifications are met
• Traveling to a customer for installation and commissioning of an instrument, including the need for troubleshooting in a start-up environment
• Travel to domestic and international locations

 

The successful candidate will:

 

• Have, at a minimum, a BS in chemistry or chemical engineering with possible experience with catalytic processes and/or analytical instrumentation and 4 to 6 years of working experience

• Demonstrate the ability to work with on a collaborative basis with other engineers, project managers and other team members

• Demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot hardware and software problems during start-up

• Have strong written and verbal communication skills

• Be detail-oriented and highly organized
